Tonight we decided that 6 of us camp host would go to town and get some dinner together. (Bob, Snookie, Buzz, Jackie and Todd and I) thought we should check out a little restaurant called “In The Country” (they have a fish fry every Friday with Alaskan Pollack) it has a ice cream parlor attached to it you can grab dessert on the way out.
It was not what we expected when we walked in. It looks to be a old house converted into a restaurant very cute and quaint. You have to order your food at the counter when you walk in. They have burger’s on the menu salads, wraps, chicken tender, fried shrimp and much much more. For the size of the place the menu is perfect! After you order you can go find a seat and they will bring the food out to you. The seating is in what looks to be the room’s of the old house they kept it looking original I think it is so cute. (the floors even creek like the older houses do) We did not wait long for our food the only down fall was that we all paid separately so our food came out at different time’s. By the time Bob and Snookie Ordered Buzz and Jackie could have been done eating.
Buzz, Jackie, Todd and Bob all ordered the fish fry the whole reason we tried this place. it came with your choice of fries or chips, Slaw and hush puppies. The food was cooked perfectly the breading was light so you could still taste the fish. I tasted a piece of the fish to my taste it tasted bland but I do not eat fish so who am I to judge :-) lol… The pieces of fish were a decent size you had a choice from 2, 3 or 4 piece obviously there would be a price difference for more pieces. Snookie dared to be different she ordered a cheeseburger it came with fries. She said the cheeseburger was really good all the toppings were fresh and the meat seemed to be fresh not frozen. last but not least I always have to be different I ordered fried shrimp basket with fries. The shrimp to me were not cooked all the way and they were really greasy the breading was light as well but to my liking not enough seasoning.
The fish fry also came with hushpuppies as a side. The hushpuppies were very different from what we have had in the past when you think hushpuppies they are normally really dense and heavy these were to total opposite they were really light and airy when you bite into them they like dissolved in your mount. They had sugar added and on the coating which gave them a little bit of a sweeter bite everyone liked them except Todd he like’s them more dense.
After eating we went out a shopped around the gift area in the restaurant. They sell candles, scarf's, bracelets, Creeper Trail T-shirts,Sweat shirt and key chains all a reasonable price’s Jackie bought a scarf she feel in love with. They also sell fudge, although they did not have any made when we were there but the owner said if we came back the beginning of the week he would have some freshly made for us. Snookie was disappointed, she was looking forward to some good fudge. When we left we looked at the ice cream shop, but we were all so stuffed we decided that ice cream was a no go.
The place was great we would go back again I would get something different. This was some of the best food we have had since we have been in Damascus
